Catalogue Note

Childe Hassam wrote an article, titled 'Twenty-five Years of American Painting" for "The Art News" on April 14th, 1928, in which he commented on contemporary artists that were working in the United States and exhibiting in New York.  He chose to illustrate the present work, as an example of an American painting, which he painted in 1917; other images chosen for this article are by John Singer Sargent and Winslow Homer two recognized champions of American paintings, and John H. Twatchman and J. Alden Weir, two of his intimate friends.
