Catalogue Note

According to the artist's grandson, Edward Tarbell purchased the property at which this was painted in 1905 and constructed his studio a few years later.  View of the Piscataqua River, New Castle, New Hampshire depicts the western view from the artist's studio.  The white church in the distance is North Church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

This painting retains its original frame, inscribed Thulin 1925 with the framer's monogram.
