Catalogue Note

John Baur notes: "Diary entries at Giverny in Nov., 1892, indicate that [Theodore Robinson] painted two Little Mill pictures at that time. This, however, is apparently a third version, as its dimensions correspond with those in the following entry: 'Began a little 10 x 14 canvas - The little mill with cumulous cloud, from a photo and the canvas' ( 1/31/93). He did not complete it until 1896, the year it was first exhibited. 'I'm trying to 'finish' my little 'Cumulous' (little mill) but find it difficult' (2/20/96)" (Theodore Robinson, 1946, p. 68).
