Le personnage caryatide, portant une coiffure à chignons agencés en cascade, est représenté assis, les jambes repliées se fondant dans l'épaisseur du buste, afin de concentrer l'attention sur la majesté du geste - soutenant du bout de ses doigts tendus le linteau posé sur la tête. Les bras surdimensionnés se déploient dans l'espace, dans un jeu de lignes rythmé par l'accentuation des points de rupture. Belle opposition entre la rigueur des lignes et la richesse de la parure corporelle, le torse recouvert de scarifications aux motifs gaufrés. Patine caramel, brillante, brune sur le linteau.

Catalogue Note
Au sein du corpus des appuis-tête Luba, celui-ci se caractérise par sa coiffure à chignons agencés en cascade, permettant de l'attribuer aux Luba de la région du Shankadi, et vraisemblablement aux ateliers de Mwenza. Il se distingue par la hardiesse du traitement corporel - jambes disparaissant et bras surdimensionnés - mettant en valeur, avec un jeu de lignes et de rapports vide/plein superbement maîtrisé, toute la majesté du geste. cf. n° 145 de ce même catalogue pour un appui-tête provenant du même atelier.
