Description

the ceremonial female figures in long tight-fitting skirts secured with rectangular medallions on the side, their sharply defined faces with applied button-pupils and teeth indicated, wearing thick cord necklaces and elaborate headdresses with large tubular ornaments, all secured with narrow chinstraps, areas highlighted with bitumen.

Los Angeles, Ancient  Art of Veracruz, Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History, February 23-June 13, 1971, fig. 26, for the figure in the striped skirt.

Condition

Various repairs on both figures. Figure in plain skirt: both hands restored , repaired corner of left flange, small portion of top of headdress restored, body and skirt generally ok. Figure in striped skirt : both feet broken and repaired, areas of repair in skirt, left arm broken and repaired at elbow, areas of flanges on headdress show restoration; black areas enhanced .
