Condition

The painting is framed behind perspex and is in a very good condition. The left hand framing stick has been broken away in the lower section and there are very minor areas of pigments loss, with remaining pigments appearing stable with no signs of repair or restoration.

This painting is sold with a Jerome Gould collection sheet which similarly describes the work as 'artist unknown' and reads in part: "The mimih are believed to be very sexually active. Men would be enticed by the mimih into their camp and would be offered their wives and daughters, but it was believed if the man had intercourse with mimih women he would turn into a mimih himself". This painting has recently been positively identified as by Lofty Bardayal Nadjamerrek.
