Description

  • Lengths: 61 cm, 46.5 cm
both early and exceptional examples carved in hardwood, the spearthrower of leaf-like form with wooden peg attached at the top with spinifex resin and kangaroo sinew and the handle similarly bound, the reverse replete with adze markings and engraved with three motifs suggestive of Western capital letters; the coolamon of ovoid form and convex section, the surfaces replete with linear fluted markings, the entire surface encrusted with earth pigments, old, glossy patinas

Condition

The coolamon has sustained damage around the edges in a a number of areas, most probably from use. The surface is thickly encrusted with pigments. The spearthrower is in good condition.
