Condition
The painting is in good and stable condition with no signs of restoration or repair. There are some small scratches in the blue ground near to the centre.

Catalogue Note
A traditional elder of the Larrakia people, whose country encompasses the land on which the city of Darwin is built, Midpul emerged as an artist in the public domain late in life. He started painting in acrylic on canvas when he was about 60 years old, yet the authoritative and bold images he produced, all based on a lexicon of designs painted onto the bodies of performers in Larrakia rituals, bear testimony to a lifetime of painting within the ceremonial context. Midpul was not over-prolific and he is represented in every major public collection in Australia.
