Catalogue Note
The copper red glazed vessels of the Qing period are essentially a revival of early Ming prototypes, with the high degree of transparency in the rich glaze successfully achieved through the great technical advances that were made at the Imperial kilns at Jingdezhen.
A vase of similar form and size, from the Kostolany collection, included in the Oriental Ceramic Society Exhibition of Monochrome Porcelain, London, 1948, cat. no. 128, was sold in our London rooms, 3rd March 1953.
