Catalogue Note
Paton was one of the first Scottish artists to paint out of doors and made many sketches in his native country. He visited the island of Arran in 1855, exhibiting The Slochd-a-chrommain (Raven's Hollow, Arran), On the Coast of Arran and Bridge in Arran at the Royal Scottish Academy that year. The present watercolour of a babbling burn and fallen tree is typical of his meticulous style.
