Catalogue Note

Robert Hills was a founder member of the Old Watercolour Society and was the Society's first Secretary. He was entirely self-taught and is best known for his detailed drawings and paintings of animals. He clearly had a penchant for donkeys, cleverly observing their behavior and their idiosyncratic looks.
