STRUCTURE
There is a slight crack to the board in the lower right corner but this appears to be contemporary with the painting's production.
PAINT SURFACE
There are lines of indentation along the lower and upper edges of the paint surface where a frame has apparently rubbed the wet paint. There are areas of dirt and surface deposits which may benefit from a light clean. Otherwise the paint surface is in good overall condition.

UV light reveals no sign of retouching.
FRAME
Held in a decorative gilded composition frame which has sustained some abrasions.

Catalogue Note
Warner Street is in Clerkenwell, north London between Rosebery Avenue and Farringdon Road. The viaduct shown in the present picture carries Rosebery Avenue towards Finsbury. The doorway of the Red Lion public house is shown in the foreground. Steggles captured the character of this part of the city with its elegant Georgian houses nestling between nineteenth century shops and warehouses.
