Condition

STRUCTURE Original canvas in good overall condition. PAINT SURFACE There are scattered areas of light craquelure in all four quadrants. There are traces of dirt and surface matter across the paint surface which may benefit from a light clean. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under UV light reveals no sign of retouching. FRAME Held in a painted decorative composition frame which has sustained some abrasions.

Catalogue Note

The present view is taken from the end of Arbour Square with St. Thomas's Church in profile. The distinctive east London landmark was destroyed by bombing in 1940 and its congregation later united with St. Dunstan's.
