- an italianate river landscape in stormy weather with a shepherdess and her flock on a path near a waterfall, a view of a citadel beyond;an italianate river landscape with a traveller and his donkey on a path, fishermen holding fishing nets, a view of a citadel beyond
a pair, both signed and dated in brown ink, the former lower left: Hk Meijer. inv.fecit/ 1770, the latter lower right: Hk Meyer/ invt et fecit/ 1770
- both brown ink and gouache on paper, the former within remains of brown ink framing lines, the latter within brown ink framing lines
- each: approx. 211 by 172 mm.
Condition
Both drawings are a lot more colourful and greener and deeper in tone than the catalogue illustrations suggest. Both drawings are in excellent condition. No damages or discolourings can be observed. Some minor retouching can be observed in the clouds in the drawing of the traveller with his donkey. The clouds in this drawing are under a fine and dense craquelure pattern.
Offered in elaborate carved and gilt wood frames with a few paint losses and thin cracks in all corners. (MW)
