Catalogue Note
John Blades was a leading manufacturer of London cut-glass objects in the late 18th and early 19th century. First recorded in 1783 at 5 Ludgate Hill, he was appointed as `Cut Glass Manufacturer to His Majesty' in 1789. A pair of table candelabra attributed to Blades is ilustrated by Jonathan Bourne and Vanessa Brett, Lighting in the Domestic Interior p. 170, fig. 570.
