Catalogue Note
'Molded borders of commodes, tables and chests, especially when free of ormolu mounts were often strengthened by ebonizing, a highly unusual device', used by the London firm of Mayhew and Ince, as noted in the Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, 1986, p. 593, seen on the underside of the top's edge and along the molded border of the platform stretcher of the present table.
