Pooh's head with one paw clutching jar, 48 by 84mm., unsigned;



Pooh's body (head submerged) with lower paw on jar, 52 by 86mm., unsigned;



Pooh's head and three paws above water next to jar, 48 by 97mm., unsigned;



Pooh's body (head submerged) with two lower paws on jar, 92 by 90mm., unsigned;



Pooh lying on top of jar, 55 by 90mm., unsigned;



Pooh triumphantly astride jar, 65 by 70mm., signed with initials 'EHS' in lower right corner;



all ink drawings with minor gouache corrections, each individually mounted and housed in collector's folding brown cloth case with spine in brown morocco gilt in compartments, signed 'Shepherds London', some browning

Catalogue Note

These six original illustrations are reproduced on pages 134, 135 and 138 of Winnie-the-Pooh. They form the complete sequence of drawings of Winnie-the-Pooh on a floating honey pot (named The Floating Bear) within the chapter in which Piglet is entirely surrounded by water.

"If a bottle can float, then a jar can float, and if a jar floats, I can sit on the top of it, if it's a very big jar." ...For a little while Pooh and The Floating Bear were uncertain as to which of them was meant to be on the top...
