Catalogue Note

This work is from a series of small still lifes that were created by Grant in between working on larger compositions, circa 1920. There is a comparable watercolour that depicts the same glass and a pear, circa 1919, currently in a private collection. It was not long after this period that Grant stopped using such bright colours, instead replacing them with an earthier, darker palette.
