Catalogue Note

Superficially similar to Talos Armed Head II, which was cast in an edition of six, the present work exhibits a number of changes from that model. The helmet form has an incised line which follows its edge and the plume and tail of the helmet have been shortened. As the present work is numbered 6/6 and was acquired directly from the artist's family, it is therefore feasible to assume that the variations in this cast were the result of the artist's experimenting during the casting range of the edition.

For images of the alternate versions of the cast, see Peter Cannon-Brookes, Michael Ayrton, Birmingham, 1978, p.57.
