Catalogue Note
Marin-Marie est l'un des plus célèbres peintres de marines français du XXème siècle. Il a passé presque toute sa vie en mer ou au bord de la mer, comme marin et comme peintre. Il a peint toutes sortes de bateaux, voiliers, remorqueurs, trois mâts, quatre mâts, paquebots, etc...principalement à l'aquarelle et à la gouache.
La puissance des compositions de Marin-Marie tient autant à l'exactitude technique des navires qu'au réalisme saisissant de ses mers, dont il savait très bien rendre l'aspect marbré. Il a aimé représenter les mers parfaitement calmes. Ses "grands calmes blancs" où il jouait à merveille avec le papier, sont parmi ses oeuvres les plus appréciées.
