Catalogue Note

Zamacoïs étudie à l'école des Beaux Arts de Madrid avant de venir à Paris, où il fut élève de Meissonier. Par la suite il se lia d'amitié avec Mariano Fortuny et Raimundo de Madrazo. L'influence de Meissonier et de Fortuny est évidente dans les petits tableaux de Zamacoïs, peints de façon très fine et minutieuse. Il s'est spécialisé dans les petits tableaux de genre, pleins d'humour et de drôlerie; il a souvent peint des scènes de carnaval, personnages déguisés, moines et curés, musiciens de rues etc...
