Catalogue Note

The present lot most probably depicts Laren. As a result of the growing urbanisation in The Hague, the painters of the Hague School were looking for new grounds. The unspoilt landscape of Het Gooi, which was discovered by Jozef Israels, became an important source of inspiration for Mauve, who first came to Laren in 1882 and lived there from 1885 till 1888.
