the dial centered by dragon-cast hands and with engraved Roman numerals on a white onyx banding, the case supported on fruiting bamboo supports and mounted by a Chinese lidded vase, the twin-train movement with a seal and numbered 14111, the vase signed E. CORNU. Brd des ITALIENS 24. 

Overall in good condition. Tarnishing to gilt-bronze and minor nicks to edges of onyx. Bell, key and pendulum present but detached. Vase with some scratches and dents consistent with age.

The sculptor and bronzier Eugène Cornu (d. 1875) was a prominent Parisian artist to involve himself with new medium and had a paricular interest in Algerian marble and onyx mines. Working closely with G. Viot, he exhibited extensively at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1867. He also exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1874 and was a director of a bronze foundry as well as several other establishments in Paris.
