With their naturalistically cast scrolling acanthus branches, the present appliqués reflect the Louis XV 'pittoresque' style put forward by marchands-merciers such as Lazare Duvaux known to have employed the French bronzier Jean-Claude Duplessis. See H. Ottomeyer, P. Pröschel, et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I, p. 143, figs. 2.11.17 and 2.11.18. for examples of three-branch wall-lights closely related in design.
