Four English majolica figural shell salts circa 1870

comprising: two, possibly Brown-Westhead Moore & Co., each modelled as a crouching faun supporting a shell upon its back and two modelled with a cherub seated above an open shell supported on an back of a dolphin, the first two with painted numbers 136 and 137 and one impressed 55. Minor chips and restoration. Together with a George Jones majolica chestnut dish, circa 1870, the shaped dish modelled with branches and leaves and set with a reclining cherub handle, applied pad factory mark and shape number 2575, impressed diamond registration mark. Minor restoration. 5 pieces.

Cherub atop salts: One has a minor 1/2 inch shallow chip to the edge of the shell; the other has a minor small restored rim chip to the edge of the shell at one corner and a 3/4 inch area of restoration to the underside of the foot at the back of the salt, perhaps covering a chip, possibly extending to the outer edge of the foot - there is a tiny glaze chip at this point. Forms beneath salts: One has two small restored rim chips to the front edge of the shell but is in otherwise good condition. The shell of the other is completely oversprayed, probably covering a large break or breaks. Chestnut dish: The front edge of the dish is restored along an approximate 2 inch section of the rim.
