Three English majolica salts and a box and cover 1863-1872

comprising: a Minton salt in the form of a boat with a youth seated at the tiller; a Minton salt in the form of a dwarf supporting a shallow open bowl on his back; a Joseph Holdcroft salt modelled as a cherub seated on the prow of a boat inscribed 'LE BATELIER DE CYTHERE'; and a Wedgwood box and cover of rectangular form, the cover modelled as a kneeling maiden in Medieval style costume, her train supported by two bowing pages, impressed MINTON and WEDGWOOD marks and year cyphers for 1863, 1867 and 1872, the Holdcroft salt with impressed numeral 442. Some minor chips and restoration. 5 pieces.

Box and cover – her head has been off and the hat and wimple is made up and restored. The cloak is oversprayed. The cushion is oversprayed and it is impossible to see the extent of the restoration. The ankles of the page boys are cracked and restored. The Holdcroft boat – cherub's right leg below knee restored down into the boat wood work. The horn of the mask are restored. The Minton boat – his head has been off and restored back on. There is an inch crack running down from the rim on both sides oversprayed inside. The figural salt – very minor chip to the edge of the footrim
