A Minton majolica large wine cistern 1850-75

modelled by Louis-François Jeannest, the shallow oval bowl supported by two cherubs whose bodies terminate in scrolling foliage, the rim modelled with two ram's heads with ivy leaves trailing from their horns. Some very minor repairs.

All four of the foliate elements beneath the bowl are slightly lose. There are several very minor old chips to the applied leaves. The edge of one goat's horn is restored and a small patch of one cherub's hair is restored over. There is a small chip to the edge of another goat's horn.

This model, shape number 614, was designed by Jeannest (1813-1857) during his brief modelling period at Minton between 1846-1852.
