the hound modelled crouched on a green cushion edged with white braid and wtih gilt tassles at the corners, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue with cancellation mark beneath the hilts, inscribed in black 'Chien favori de feu S. M. L'ImpĂ©ratrice CathĂ©rine de Russie'. Repaired.

Condition

The figure has been broken in 3 pieces through the base at the rear of the dog - although the damage does not appear to have affected the dog's tail. The first break runs from approximately half way along the front of the base diagonally to a point almost midway along the left side. The second break runs from a point along the first long break about 2 inches from the left side, horizontally (on that side) to the back of the base. The breaks have been repaired but not overpsprayed and are apparent. There are two small chips to one of the tassels on a rear corner and a small chip to his collar. There are two fine, probably stress-related, hair cracks to the dog's head, one across his snout and the other running up from the base between his right ear and eye.
