each with a trumpet-shaped fluted tapered backplate overflowing with fruits and flowers, the central curved branch fitted with a putto flanked by curved branches fitted with acanthus leaves and with grape clusters beneath the drip pans.

Overall in good condition with the usual minor scratches, dents and nicks consistent with age and use. Slight tarnishing to gilt-bronze in places. The nozzles most probably replaced with some later replacements to gilt bronze.

A set of four wall lights of this model commissioned on September 29, 1787 and executed under the direction of the sculptor Jean Hauré, was delivered by Pierre-François Feuchère (1737-1823) in early 1788 for Marie-Antoinette's Cabinet de Toilette at St. Cloud. These, now in the Louvre, are illustrated, D. Alcouffe, A. Dion-Tennenbaum, G. Mabille, Gilt Bronzes in the Louvre, Dijon, 2004, pp. 166-167, fig. 85. The model derives from a set of two branch wall lights by Hauré and Feuchère made for the apartments of Thierry de Ville d'Avray in 1787.
