Overall in good condition. Extensive losses to polychrome decoration with some areas probably re-decorated. The white marble bases with scratches, chips and dirt consistent with age. One with traces of old repair to the neck.

From its establishment in 1895, Edward F. Caldwell and Company of New York ranked among the leading Americain designers of light fixtures and objects of virtue.

In the late 1880s he met his future partner, Victor F. von Lossberg. The two acquired their own foundry in 1901 at 38 West Fifteenth Street. Although they primarily designed light fixtures, starting in 1910 the firm diversified, producing desk sets, clocks, andirons, and furniture.

The present model candelabra can be seen in a archival drawing currently at the Cooper Hewitt museum, number 2LB101-11-A68680
