'THE BOY AND GOAT' AND 'THE TUG OF WAR'; TWO CHARLES VYSE EARTHENWARE FIGURE GROUPS DATED 1921 AND 1924

the first modelled as a boy carrying bunches of grapes astride a goat on a grassy mound base painted with flowerheads; and the second as two elf-like boys each riding a goat and engaged in a contest of strength on a green mound and canted rectangular base, both with blue painted CV monogram 1921 or 1924 CHELSEA. Base of  second restored.

There is a restored over star crack in the base extending diagonally from the center pierced hole to the corner and from the center to one of the long sides. Most of the cracks appear to have extended up the side of the base (and have been restored over) and very slightly into the modeled areas. One goat's tail is restored; the tip of the laurel on this goat's head is restored. Part of the garland around this goat's neck has been off and restored back on. Boy on Goat- The curl of fur on the goat's forehead is restored. Ther is a restored chip to the edge of the blue drapery on the front side. The restoration is well done.
