Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This painting is unlined, and is in generally very healthy state. The paint is warm in palette in many areas, but is essentially more or less clean, and one does not want to assume this kind of picture by Lhermitte is dirty. There is a recent small loss in the lower center, and slight abrasion around the torso and in the background of the worker bending over in the left side of the picture. Otherwise the condition is very good. A light cleaning might be in order and a few retouches to the bending figure.
