Catalogue Note
Among his notable etchings, watercolors and paintings Goeneutte was celebrated for his insightful portraits of elegant ladies, his family, and that of his artist friends. Goeneutte likely met Charles Emile Auguste Carolus-Duran during time spent in Édouard Manet's studio. The present work may be a portrait of Carolus-Duran's son dressed in the costume of a court musician.
