Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This painting has not been properly restored. The canvas is unlined, the paint layer is extremely dirty and will clean well. The most obvious problem is that due to perhaps improper conditions where the picture was hung, the paint layer has cracked quite noticeably throughout. These cracks are light in color and for the most part, all need to be retouched. Some retouches have been quite broadly applied to this area in an attempt to diminish some of these cracks, yet they are not successful and could be replaced. Once the picture has been cleaned and varnished, the onus is on the restorer to do a diligent and refocused job of eliminating a good number of these cracks in order to present the picture properly. The canvas is however not currently lined and the paint layer has never been cleaned and so there is no abrasion or weakening of the existing paint layer.
