Good condition, unlined, finely patterned craquelure visible, small area of paint slightly wrinkled on right cheek; under UV: dot of inpainting along cupid's left arm, otherwise no inpainting apparent.

Catalogue Note
Nathanaël Schmitt was the brother of the portraitist Guido-Philipp Schmitt who lived and painted in England from 1859 to 1896. It is believed Schmitt completed the present work during his time in Rome from 1872 to 1880.
