Condition
Overall the surface of the marble is in good condition consistent with recent professional cleaning. There is some variation in the surface of the marble notably in the hands. There appears to be some softening of the detail particularly in the hair and feet. Otherwise the condition is good. There are a few minor inclusions consistent with the material.

Catalogue Note
Pietro Ceccarelli was a Florentine sculptor who was active in Venezuela. It is likely that the present marble was executed during his sojourn in South America. In 1939 he designed a monument to Raffaello Urbaneta in Caracas. He also designed a monument to the dead in San Giovanni Valdarno in 1926. Ceccarelli exhibited at both the Promotrice di Belle Arti, Turin and the Società delle Belle Arti, Florence.
