Catalogue Note
Amleto Cataldi first trained with his father, a wood carver in Naples, before moving to Rome where he was given the chair of ornamental sculpture at the Institute of San Michele. His early work focussed on biblical and literary themes within a Symbolist idiom before 1910. After that date Cataldi began to practice a more stylised, modernist sculpture, concentrating on nudes and inspired by the antique.
