4 leaves, including (a) large miniature of St. George and the dragon on a cutting, 160mm. by 104mm., miniature 124mm. by 89mm., with a full-length portrait of the saint in liquid gold armour and riding a white horse, spearing the dragon as the horse tramples it underfoot, a princess in the background kneeling before a castle on a rocky hill, all before a wide open sky touched with liquid gold, full border decoration (somewhat trimmed on upper and left-hand sides) of blue and brown chevrons surrounded by naturalistic gems, some very minor wear and laid down on card but visible verso blank, northern France, c. 1500; (b) single leaf from a Calendar (May), 240mm. by 167mm., on recto: a large roundel in margin framed in liquid-gold enclosing a man in a red tunic riding a white horse and holding a hawk in his left hand, full border decoration of simple foliage terminating in coloured flowers, bulbous fleshy leaves and liquid gold ivy-leaves and bezants, with sprays of coloured and gold foliage at head and foot of page, 16 lines of text in liquid gold, blue or red in a fine accomplished Gothic bookhand with line fillers in blue, pink and liquid gold, large initial 'KL' in blue and pink touched with white penwork on liquid gold ground, on verso, text as above with a single border panel of foliage, northern France (probably Paris), mid-fifteenth century; plus two lavishly illuminated text leaves, one from a French Missal from c. 1500, and the other from a French Book of Hours of much the same date; all in excellent condition and in card mounts
