STRUCTURE Original Canvas CATALOGUE COMPARISON The illustration is broadly representative. PAINT SURFACE the paint surface is in good original condition with a light, original varnish. There are traces of dirt and the work may benefit from a light clean. ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT UV light reveals areas of old retouching in the sky off the upper edge, no further sign of retouching. FRAME Held in a later wooden frame in fair condition.

This charming painting is the artist's earliest known work and was painted when he was only eighteen. It depicts a scene that the artist painted on several later occasions, that of a Cornish apple orchard.
