STRUCTURE This picture is in excellent original condition. CATALOGUE COMPARISON The illustration is broadly representative PAINT SURFACE The surface is sound and stable throughout. There are no signs of craquelure and the paint surface appears to be clean. The picture is ready to hang. UNDER ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT There are no signs of retouching. FRAME This picture is contained in a moulded plaster frame and under glass.

Catalogue Note

The present picture was painted on the river Llugwy at Bettws-Y-Coed in north Wales where Leader frequently painted. Several of Leader's earliest landscapes were painted on the Llugwy or the Conway at Bettws-Y-Coed, including On the Conway, Near Bettws-Y-Coed of 1863, Scene on the Llugwy, with Moel Siabod in the Distance of 1870 (Rochdale Art Gallery) and A Trout Stream, An Autumn Afternoon on the Llugwy of 1872 (Art Gallery on Ontario, Toronto).
