Condition
STRUCTURE
Original canvas. This is generally sound, although there is one patch to a repaired tear in the upper right on the reverse.
CATALOGUE COMPARISON
The illustration is broadly representative.
PAINT SURFACE
The surface is in sound condition overall with a light even varnish; the aforementioned tear appears to have been the width of the canvas as repairs are visible to the naked eye. Also there are areas of horizontal craquelure to the figures faces and dresses.
ULTRAVIOLET
UV light reveals retouching to the aforementioned repair; further retouching to the girls elbow, lower right and traces of old retouching to the background in the same area. The varnish prevents further reading.
FRAME
Held in a plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
