Condition

STRUCTURE: There are surface abrasions along the left hand border and some further in the upper right corner; otherwise the paint surface is sound. SURFACE: The surface is in good clean condition. There are a few spots of foxing in the upper right quarter and a small patch of restoration to the sitter's left knee. FRAME: Under glass and held in a gilt painted frame in fair condition; unexamined out of frame. COLOUR COMPARISON: The work is darker in tone than the illustration suggests with more pronounced areas of shading throughout.
