Catalogue Note

There are a number of editions or issues of this book which was first published in 1809-1810 with 54 plates. Compared with the first edition, the present copy has one more plate and slight variation in the subject matter of a few plates. There is no plate of the monument to Sir John Moore at Corunna (as in the copies described by Abbey, no.135, or Tooley, no.107), but there are two additional plates entitled 'Cintra' and 'Toro from the River Douro'.

The edition with the imprint "Printed for John Booth by Howlett and Brimmer" is described by both Tooley and Abbey as 1813? or 1813. However in this copy the plates are watermarked 1823 and 1824 (in the Abbey copy they were dated 1820). In 1823 publication was taken over by Thomas M'Lean.
