Catalogue Note

one of only two known copies, a fine, dark impression.

Israel Holtzwurm's celebrated map of Carinthia, notable for its more realistic representation of river systems and lakes, was commissioned by the Carinthian Estates, for whom he worked as a surveyor, and intended for inclusion in the first volume of Hieronymus Megister's Annales Carinthiae (Leipzig, 1612), although it was evidently not included in the final publication. Only two copies of the map are known to survive: one in the University Library of Regensburg, and the present example.
