a splendid rare photographic panorama of singapore, over two and a half metres (eight and a half feet) in length, showing the harbour, Cavenagh bridge (1868) and the city. This photograph can be dated accurately by the scene showing construction workers laying the foundations of Anderson bridge, which began in 1908. Anderson bridge was intended to cope with the city's growing vehicular and pedestrian traffic, the load of which Cavenagh Bridge could not handle. However when Anderson bridge was completed in 1910, Cavenagh Bridge was spared from demolition and was converted to a pedestrian bridge.
