approximately 630 glass negatives and slides, preserved in 45 original boxes, most boxes labelled in ink with a list of contents and dated, together with a wooden box addressed to "Monsieur E. Boindau (?), Légation de Belgique, Pékin, Chine", some wear, one negative broken, a few boxes worn
a large and impressive collection of negatives and slides of china, spanning six years from c.1904 to 1909. It would appear that most, if not all, the photographs were taken by a Belgian diplomat, Monsieur E. Boindau (?), who was attached to the Belgian mission to China in the early 1900s. The glass negatives include 43 boxes of views of China, one box, containing 17 views of Lucerne, Milan, Genoa, Naples and one box which includes a view of a mission in the Belgian Congo at Kinkanda dated 1899. The photographs include views in Peking, temples, motor cars departing on the Peking to Paris rally, a dragon festival, a boating festival, market and street scenes, various trades, boats and shipping, the Winter Palace, a railway accident and images of an Imperial funeral.
