Catalogue Note

a fine pictorial record of mexico with "draughtsmanship and lithography of a very high quality" (Abbey).

The work was first published during 1855-1857 with 41 single-tinted views on 38 plates (here there are 45 on 41). Over the years it was extended, with additional plates, a map and plan, and more of the plates were coloured. The varying dates in this copy on the title (1855-56), plan (1858) and cover (1861) are testimony to the evolving nature of the work.
