the dedication copy. The author was an American writer and traveller (1825-1878) who in 1874 travelled with Steriker Finnis jun., Fogg's "compagnon de voyage" and to whom this book is dedicated, to Egypt, the Holy Land, Arabia, the Persian Gulf, Persia and Baghdad. "A good portion of the book is devoted to Baghdad and its environs, including the ruins of Babylon and Nineveh." (Ghani)
