Catalogue Note

an attractive copy. "Whilst in the Levant, Ferrières spent some time in the service of the Comte Vergennes, French ambassador to the Porte from 1755. His loyalty to Vergennes may well explain the vitriolic outbursts in the present text against the Comte de Choiseul Gouffier, Vergennes' successor. Aside from the criticisms, Ferrières-Sauveboeuf gives an account of the Turkish-Russian war of 1788-1789 and describes his travels in Egypt, Palestine, Greece, Syria, Persia and Cyprus" (Atabey).
