Description

  • 18.5cm., 7¼in.
the thistle bowl decorated with the crowned arms of Saxony above two shields on one side and inscribed Hoc Fub Præ fidio lætatur, the reverse with fields before a view of Leipzig, inscribed LJPSJA Felix flanking a sunburst, the base cut with facets, faceted inverted baluster stem and folded conical foot engraved with scroll

Restituted from the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin to the heirs of Helmuth Meißner in 2007

Condition

Generally in good condition overall; there is a 1.5cm long diagonal internal manufacturing flaw in the area of the stem below the baluster which is disguised by the faceting. The arms are those of Friedrich August II, Elector of Saxony and elected King of Poland as August III (1699-1763).
